Outlook 2003 (SP2) security

Hello,

I have recently read on some news provider that Microsoft found a
certian security hole in Word, which they had not yet patched and thus
recomended that people do not use Word as the default Outlook editor
for the time being.

I suppose the message could be bogus or outdated, I have only caught a
glympse of it. I cannot find any other articles saying exactly the same
thing on the internet (or the same article for that matter) and so I
turn to you.

Has there been any such statement by Microsoft lately? If so, does it
affect MS Office 2003 SP2 and it's Outlook?

So is it actually possible to embed a word file in an email which Word
opens during viewing the email (e.g.: not attachment)?

As far as I know WinWord in Outlook reads and sends HTML formatted text.

Attachments are not a threat to Outlook users in companies, since they
pass the Exchange server where they are scanned by an anti-virus.

WordMail in Outlook 2003 can be used to create any format message, but for incoming messages, WordMail can be used to read only rich-text format messages, not HTML,and most people have that option already turned off.

Your virus scanner is only as good as its last update, though, so if it doesn't scan for this latest exploit, opening a Word file could be risky.
