Outlook 2003 with older versions of Office

My office is considering updating Outlook to 2003. The only thing is, they
don't want to update all of Office. We have a mixture of 2000 and 2002 in
our environment. I've read a couple articles that mention some concerns
and/or limitations with just installing Outlook, such as not being able to
use the Word Mail editor, or the mail merge feature. Has anyone had any
experience with this? I would love to hear pros and cons of this setup.
