Outlook 2007 crashes every time I enter a birthday on a contact

[Frustrated with fields and macros!!!!!!!]

....it submits to Microsoft the error
....I have run detect and repair
....I can do everything else with contacts BUT add their birthday..

where do I go from here SHORT of reinstalling...
