Outlook 2007 on Vista gets confused on Window positions after sitting over night

S

Scott Townsend

So I've had 3 machines running either Vista Enterprise, or Vista Ultimate,
and Running Outlook 2007 (all the latest SPs), all machines have Dual
Monitors and Outlook is Maximized on the 2nd Screen

Each of the 3 machine have experienced an issue where Outlook will lose
control of where its at in its windowing space and its location in the Task
bar. So in the Task bar, the outlook entry usually ends up somewhere on top
of the start and or quick launch area, though not alogned up anywhere with
anything else.

Then in the main outlook window, you can usually see the Top of the Window
with the name, Min, Max and Close, though the contents of the window is way
messed up. The Left side area where the folders and such are is gone, the
toolbars and menus are gone and the preview portion seems to be in the upper
left of the window area. You have no logical control ofthe mouse in the
window. Moving the mouse in the windowe causes weird things to happen. Your
best bet is to try to activate Outlook and then hit Alt-F4 to exit it. If
you have anthing open then will pop up a Dialog, then you are kind of hosed.

I though it might have been my First install, though now that the same thing
happens on 2 other machines its not jsut 1 flakey install.

We have 2 other machines with Similar setups (OS, Versions, and Dual
Displays) that both work fine.

Any Suggestions?

Hi Scott,

This issue is a display related issue. I think that it is mostly related to the display card driver which may be incompatible with Outlook
2007 and Windows Vista. Does the display issue also occur with other applications?

According to current situation, I strongly recommend you to only use one of the monitors on the computer and test the issue in Outlook
2007. What is the result?

Also, please update the display card driver to the latest version to see if it works.

Come into Windows clean boot mode to test the issue.
==================
It will disable all third party software from loading at startup so that we can narrow down if the issue is related to the third party
software.

You can refer to the following KB article for detail steps.

929135 How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135

Perfrom the above steps and let me know the result. If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to
contact me.

Sincerely,

Emily Lin,
