Outlook 98 crashing while in Preview Pane mode

In Outlook 98, when certain "spam" messages are
highlighted for deletion and Preview Pane is on, Outlook
crashes, but if the same message is accessed with Preview
Pane off it can be deleted successfully. Can anyone
provide any insight as to why this occurs? Thanks.

There is an exploit in the html formatted message that is trying to force an
attachment open w/out any user intervention. Since you are running an older
version of Outlook (and possibly Internet Explorer), the exploit is causing
Outlook to crash.
