Outlook and files from Macs

When sending a pdf file in the main body of the message ONLY Mac
computers can display the pdf and have it as an attachment. PC
computers oonly show the pdf in the main body as a place holder, a
small square with a red 'x'.

Logically this is pointing at outlook blocking the pdf sent as the
mesage. Outlook tech support says that itis the formatting the
Entourage is sending it out/ WTF!

What possible format can you use? I see only HTML and Plain text.

Can someone please tell me what is technially going on . do not be
shy , you can use tech gargon with me.

HTML and Plain text are the only two choices. Perhaps they are referring to
file type. Try creating an archive or zip the pdf.

Here's what I suspect is going on: when you create an HTML message in
Entourage and embed a PDF within the message body, it is referenced using
the <img> tag. Entourage's built-in HTML rendering engine knows to display
the first page of the PDF when it is an embedded object, which is easy
because the Mac OS has a lot of PDF integration. However, most web browsers
and rendering engines do not recognize PDFs as a valid file type when used
with the <img> tag. Even in Entourage, if the message is rendered by the
complex HTML/Tasman rendering engine, the PDF will not display. So, simply
put, the PDF appears in-line in Entourage only because Entourage has been
specially programmed to handle that unusual scenario. I would suggest that
you simply attach the PDF file; at least then it won't appear as an "x", and
will be able to be reliably opened on the receiving end.
