Outlook and IMAP Connections

When using Outlook and a IMAP connection is there suppose to be a Personal
Folder(.PST) and also a IMAP connection folder? Under my personal folder I
see Inbox, Deleted Items, Calendar, Tasks, Notes, etc. Under my IMAP folder
I see Inbox, Deleted Items, Sent Items, Junk, etc. Can the personal
folder(.PST) be eliminated? Both connections have a plus/minus sign next to
them so you can expand or contract them.
