Outlook attachment hang

I have problem opening attachment of any valid file extension e.g. .xls, doc,
etc, in Outlook 2003 and it just ‘hang’ for a very long time. This happened
intermittently. Greatly appreciate if anyone could provide a permanent
solution to fix this problem.
