Outlook contacts - duplicate entries

My company uses Outlook 2003 contacts as a sales database. I have noticed
that when 2 people access the same contact from different workstations and
make changes, an error message and duplicate contact is generated on exiting.
Is there any way to restrict access so only one person can access a contact
at a a time?
