Outlook 'Corrupted' (crashes system)

Is there a utility/procedure for testing/fixing Outlook? I was working
with Outlook and for some reason it freezes the whole system (WinXP)
when I launch. Even if I click a link in the browser that launches a
mail doc (e.g. Craigslist reply) once it loads the system freezes.

Any help appreciated!

Version of Outlook?
Email environment: POP3, Exchange, etc.?
Anything in the application event viewer?
Using a PST?
Any error messages/numbers?
