I run Outlook 2003 and often connect to an Exchange 2000 server. I am set up
to use cached mode when not connected to the Exchange server. When not
connected to the Exchange server, I connect to a POP server. I can not
connect to the Exchange server and the POP server at the same time, because
I have to VPN into the Exchange server and this VPN session does not give me
access to my POP server. I have rules that move my POP mail from my Inbox to
folders for my POP mail.
If I fire up Outlook, connect to the Exchange server, disconnect from the
Exchange server (while keeping Outlook open), and then download email from
the POP server, the rules work properly. However, if I fire up Outlook and
do not connect to Exchange, the rules do not run when I download email from
the POP server. When I used Outlook 2002 (Outlook XP), the rules did run
when Outlook was running offline.
I need to share my contacts and calendar when I am using Outlook to access
Exchange and when I am using Outlook to access my POP email. I also need to
be able to access both sets of email at the same time.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get my Outlook rules to run
while in cached mode. I would also be interested in another way that I could
set things up that would give me access to my Exchange contacts and calendar
while connected to my POP email and have Outlook rules run while not
connected to Exchange.
