Hi. We have the Office XP Standard edition. Our computers
are Compaq's running Windows 2000 Pro. On one machine,
when you open Outlook and then do a send/receive, after
you exit Outlook, Outlook.exe continues to run on the
task manager. Each time you open and close Outlook it
creates another instance. The funny thing is just opening
and closing Outlook makes it exit correctly. You have to
have pressed send/receive or checked for e-mail to make
it not close properly.
I've tried repairing Office, reinstalling it, removing
the anti-virus software, running the scanpst program,
renaming the .dat files I found in an Outlook
troubleshooting page but nothing helps. At the end of the
day when you're logging off or shutting down Outlook.exe
is still running and you get the message saying its not
responding.
This is all I can find. Their solution is ctrl-alt-del
everytime before logging off. :-(
