Outlook freezes with large e-mails

I am using Outlook 2002 SP3. Outlook constantly
freezes. If the message is long or has attachments
Outlook freezes. This applies whether I am sending or
receiving e-mail. I have found if I save the message to
the desktop and send or read without opening Outlook, it
works sometimes. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

My computer is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 256 MB RAM.
