This is a "part cross post" from newsgroup :
microsoft.public.exchange.design
Below is the full post from that newsgroup, but what I'm looking for here is
the Outlook issue.
-
Many users have created different settings in Outlook, users would be very
unhappy if I wipe all user settings in Outlook.
Is there a registry value or something that I can edit that will only modify
the Exchange server name, not any personal settings?
They run Office XP.
-
The full post for info about what I want to do so that you can fully
understand the "concept" : )

Migration / Consolidation 2000 to 2003
Scenario.
Two corporations have merged, both have Exchange.
Org1 have Exchange 2000 Native mode / AD 2000 Native mode.
Org2 have Exchange 2003 Native mode / AD 2003 Native mode.
There is an explicit trust between the two organisations.
For "political" reasons Org1 don't want to move everything to Org2 domain,
only merging Exchange is what they want.
How to go about it?
My first thought was to Export all mailboxes with Exmerge from Org1, create
accounts in Org2 and import the .PST files.
Outlook
Create an .PRF file that generate a new profile for users pointing to the
new mail server.
Problems with this scenario.
Many users have created different settings in Outlook, users would be very
unhappy if I wipe all user settings in Outlook.
Is there a registry value or something that I can edit that will only modify
the Exchange server name, not any personal settings?
How to I give access from the Org2 domain accounts to the Org1 domain
accounts?
I accept the fact that they will have two different accounts, I don't accept
the fact that they will have two different logons.
Can I grant permissions from one domain to the other? Like "nesting"
accounts?
Any and all thoughts and hints on this is welcome
Regards,
Fredrik
