Outlook munges host name in EHLO command

Hi folks:

I've run up against an interesting issue in Outlook
2000 and 2002 where Outlook will omit certain characters
from the hostname of the machine on which it is installed
when communicating with SMTP servers. Specifically, I
know it omits the hyphen ( - ). Can anyone tell me why -
or where I can find what other characters are omitted?
The feature is interfering with log analysis software
because machine names in the logs don't match real
machines.
