I all of a sudden lost all of my e-mail contacts that would come up via auto
fill. They were not in my contact list but only came up when I hit a cetain
apha character? Any idea how ot retrieve?

The Nickname list does not depend on your contacts folder, it is a list of addresses you have emailed irrespective of whether they are in your contacts folder.

If the list is not populating with names you have previously emailed, it indicates a damaged profile. You will need to create a new one.

And after creating the new profile as Milly said, you _may_ be able to
recover your previous list by renaming the NK2 file to match the name of
your new profile (while Outlook is closed, of course).
