Outlook won't save Word as e-mail editor

Outlook 2002 SP3
MS Office XP "Small Bussiness"
Win XP Pro

I go to "Tools"--> "Options" --> "Mail Format" I check "use Word as e-mail
editor". When I try to reply to a msg. I get a responce something like :
"Word is busy or can not be found... The form will be opened in the Outlook
editor instead". I've done a virus scan (2 in fact) run adaware & spybot
search & destroy.

I've been using this configuration for a few years w/ no problems. Today, it
decided to change...

Anyone have a clue as to a fix for this?

I have always had the understanding that you should use the same version of
outlook and word. ie. outlook 2002 works best with office 2002. It is
possible to use another version, but I have heard of nothing but problems.

There is no Office 2002. Office XP contains Outlook 2002 and Word 2002.

Well, I edited the registry and did a an Office Detect & repair. All to no
avail. Then out of desperation I opened Outlook in "safe mode" and checked
"use Word as e-mail editor" This worked. Not sure why it happened in the
first place, but i'm delighted that all's well now. Thanks to everyone for
their help.
