Outlooks stuck in processing mode

I have 11 messages stuck in outbox. The send/receive seems to be working
away but nothing coming in or going out. Tried closing outlook 3 times but
still not getting past the processing stage. Checked task manager- seems to
be running fine. any ideas?

Outlook 2007, XP
