If the ? Is in the Dock, it simply means the Dock has lost it's connection
to the application. Look in your Application folder and launch from there.
When the icon shows in the Dock, select to "keep in dock."

Thanks Diane. Unfortunately it seems that somehow entourage,
powerpoint and excel are all simply gone. I don't know what happened
to those elements of our microsoft office, but they are not there and
i cant seem to find them. i think it might have something to do with
an update going awry. My wife did say that we just got some update,
but it has been working since then. we're stumped....and frustrated.

Don't you feel special? This is really rare.
Sounds like you still have the Office folder with Word.
1) Quit all Microsoft applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift key down
to disable any startup items.)
2) Drag the Microsoft Office folder to the Trash.
3) Empty Trash.
4) Reinstall Office from your original installation disk. See details here
for 2008 (complete with screenshots for each step)

5) Restart
6) Update
7) Restart (restarting before you launch any app is important!)

Your info in the Microsoft User Data folder should not have been touched. It
is _extremely_ rare for that to happen. Check the size of your database in
your Identity.
