Page Numbering in Shaded Box

About 2 months ago, I noticed that the page numbers, which
had been standalone numbers, were now - on my screen - in
a shaded box to the point it is difficult to even see the
number (unless I print the page). How do I change this
back to a normal looking number?

Hi Harry,

From the Tools menu, select Options and then go to the View tab and change
the Field Shading to Never or When Selected.
