Page Numbering

Linda Adams

Occasionally, a chart will contain too much information that I need to "Omit
Background Graphics From Master" when I'm creating the slide because I need
the extra room.

The problem: However, when I do this, also turns off the page number. This
can create a whole bunch of headaches, ranging from having to replace updated
slides in an already printed briefing (especially if there's more than more
chart like that); to briefers asking me "Where'd the page number go?"; to
people manually adding in a page number and then the charts being shuffled or
added to a bigger briefing (an orphaned "5" appearing on a chart that's
number 40); and people recycling the chart elsewhere and leaving the manual
page number on it.

My suggestion: When the background if omitted, the page number should still
be on the slide. If we need to turn it off because of the content, that
option is already available by using the Header/Footer tool. Right now,
because of the way it's designed, there isn't any option for it.

A possible work-around to your problem:

Use rectangles with fills set to background to cover the unwanted graphics.

Create a rectangle that covers the unwanted graphics elements. Click on
Format, Autoshape, and use the Color: drop down to set the Fill to
Background. Set line to None. Click on the rectangle, click on Draw,
Order, Send to Back.

You can also go to the slide master, select the slide number shape (not
the
text itself) then copy and paste it onto any slide where you need the
number to
show but have turned off b/g graphics.

Great... thanks...
