Help me, please!

I inserted a section break in the middle of my Word document, went to the
second section and inserted a page number in Roman numerals format. It
worked fine, except the first section became numbered too (with regular
numerals)! Hm, that's odd... so I went up to the first section, used
View->Header and Footer to get rid of the page numbers. That worked, except
the page numbers from the second section disappeared! I thought by
inserting a section break I make the two halves of my document become
independent in terms of page numbers. What am I doing wrong?

Hi John,

Sounds like the header/footer in the second section was linked to that in
the first. There is a button on the Headers and Footers toolbar that can be
used to link/unlink headers and footers. If you unlink the header/footer as
the case may be, you will be able to set them up so that one has page
numbers and the other does not.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Phew. Thanks. I was ready to throw my computer against the wall. I had
searched Word 2000's Help on how to remove page numbers, and there was no
mention of breaking links. I just looked at Word 2002's Help (on another
computer) on removing page numbers, and that says I need to "break the
connections between [the sections]." Of course it doesn't tell you what it
means to "break the connections" but thanks to your note, I figured it out.

Thx again.
