Page width beyond 8.5 in selection

When I open a Word 2002 SP 2 document, the page width
appears at 8.5 width (portrait) for a second and then
expands to beyond this length to about 10.5 inch. Page
setup is set to 8.5 in with letter size. Page preview
shows the same along with Print layout view. Document did
not always so this behaviour and other word docs do not do
this.

Any clue?

Are you tracking changes, or have you inserted comments? If so, Word is
allowing for the "balloons."

Yes, that was the 'problem'....pretty poor software design
by MS...a better presentation would be to apply a soft
gray to the comments margin on the screen to give the user
an indication of the reason for the extra marging...Bill
