Page X of Y changes when printing

I have a template that has the Page x of y format in the
header. On screen and in print preview the page numbers
look fine (page 1 of 3, page 2 of 3, page 3 of 3).However
the printed pages have something completely different
(page 1 of 1, page 2 of 2, page 3 of 3). If I print from
the Print Preview screen, the numbering is as it should
be.

I am using Word XP with all of teh current updates. I
have seen this question posed before and the only
response indicated that this is not an issue with Word
2000 or later.

No, this does not help. The link that is shown below
states:

When you use the "Page X of Y" AutoText in your header or
footer, and it seems to work okay, but when you re-open
or print the document, you see "Page 1 of 1," "Page 2 of
2," and so on, you have the "Page X of Y" bug. Note: The
bug does not affect versions of Word later than 2000, so
if you are using one of them, this article does not apply

As I mentioned, I am using Word XP.

Any other suggestions.

In that case, you will have to try the various workarounds until you find a
solution.
