Paging Paul Berkowitz (Gulp!)... Entourage Inbox keeps getting deleted

A

alanpotashnick

Hello

I somehow deleted all my Inbox mail on my main .Mac account this
morning.

I quickly copied my Office 2004 Identities folder as well as my Mac
Mail folder before doing anything else.

When I opened Entourage, my Inbox was deleted there too.

When I reinsert the Office 2004 Identities files into the proper places
and reopen Entourage, my Inbox is restored, but after a short time, it
checks with the .Mac account and wipes them out again.

What can I do to prevent this and keep my mail in Entourage.

PS- anybody know of any way to 'reinsert' all of my mail back into my
..Mac account?

Thank you for any help.

Regards,
Alan

Thank you for any help.

You evidently have it set up as an IMAP account. Yes, IMAP accounts sync
with the server - that's what they're meant to do.

After reinserting the backed up identity again, start Entourage 2004
holding down Shift key (prevents startup schedules from running) and
_immediately_ go to Entourage/Work Offline. That will stop the cache
synching with the server.

Go to Tools/schedules, and disable Send & Receive All schedule.

Make a new LOCAL folder ("On My Computer"). or you can use your local Inbox
in the next step, if you prefer (e.g. if you have nothing in it anyway).

Select all the messages in your .Mac INBOX. (If there are several thousand
messages, you might want to shift-click to select about 1000 or so only at a
time.) Drag or move them to the local folder. Wait for each batch to finish
copying (moving) before going on. Repeat until messages have been copied
over. These local copies are safe. They will not disappear. If you get a
message saying your actions are being recorded, just click OK - do NOT click
to work online or to connect.

When they're all copied over, go back to Entourage/Work Offline and select
it to turn online again. Go back to Send & Return schedule and turn it on.
Run it (cmd-K). (If you had copied, rather than moved .Mac messages, wait
for all the messages in the .Mac INBOX to disappear again.) Wait for all
synching to finish.

Then go to the local folder. Shift click to select up to 1000 messages at a
time. OPTION-drag the messages back to the .Mac INBOX (if that's where you
want them). That will copy them, leaving local copies in the local folder
(safer, for the moment. You can always delete them in the future).

I think that should do it.
