Palm Conduit problems

Hi all -

After looking through this newsgroup, I realized that my inability to
install the Palm Conduit in Entourage 2004 was because I needed to
install Service Release 1. Sad to say, I absolutely cannot find it
online! The link that was posted to it in another thread didn't work.
Any suggestions on where I can find this?

Thanks for your help,

Kalpana

I think that's more for Entourage X. For ENtourage 2004, you have to use
the conduit provided with Office 2004. You should find an installer in
the Additional Tools folder in your Office folder.

No, you need not to have any service release for installing conduit.
Install Palm Desktop or Hand Held installer from Office 2004 CD in
Additional tools, and it should be ready to sync.

Hi -

When I went to install the conduit from the Office 2004 folder using
the Handheld installer, I got the error message "Microsoft Plug-in
Component Not Found." (even though it's right in the folder where it
should be). After looking at other threads on this newsgroup, the
consensus on that error message seemed to be that Service Release 1
would be needed for me to install the conduit, and that the reason I
was getting this error message was because SR 1 was not installed.
Hence, my search for SR 1.

Is this not the case?

It's not the case. There _is_ no SR 1 for Entourage 2004 (yet). Whoever told
you that thought you had Entourage X.

Before you install the Handheld Sync Installer in Additional Tools, you
first have to install Palm Desktop 4.x for Mac OS X application, available
for download from one of the Palm websites. Maybe you haven't done that?

Okay... you guys seem to be the most sophisticated folks regarding
syncing problems. Here is my problem. I'm running Office 2004 with
Entourage 11.0.0, OS X v. 10.3.5. I've installed the Conduit Manager
from the Treo disk, etc. Everything seems to sync fine when using my
Treo 600 except my contacts in the Treo. My calendar, notes, tasks,
etc. seem to be syncing fine but my contacts never all get from the
treo to the contacts section of Entourage - some of the contacts are
transfered, just not all of them, which is very frustrating. what am
I doing wrong? thank you.

Launch HotSync Manager (/Applications/Palm/HotSync Manager) and then go to
HotSync > Conduit Settings. If you see the "Address(es)" or "Address Book"
conduit, double-click it and set it to "Do Nothing". Then, select the
"Entourage Conduit" and then click on the Conduit Settings button. Next to
the "Contacts" pop-up menu, click the "Settings" button. Make sure it is
configured to "Synchronize all contacts". Also, make sure that the
"Contacts" pop-up menu is set to "Synchronize" like the others.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the Entourage Storage file
(~/Documents/Palm/Users/<your user>/Entourage Data/) and synchronizing
again.

Mickey: thanks for your quick reponse. I tried both of your
suggestions (making sure the settings in the Conduit manager were as
you described and then erasing the Entourage Storage file). I then
performed another hot sync but the problem still persists. Only about
20% of the contacts in my Treo are transfered to Entourage. Out of
maybe 10 contacts whose names start with an "A" only one contact (Nina
Arden) was transfered to Entourage. Same with the "B's", etc.

As other suggestions. Thank you very much for your help. larry

Hello,

My Entourage conduit problem is different. I use Office 2004, installed the
Palm synchronization software from the Office Tools folder following
instructions and the Entourage Conduit shows up in the Conduit Settings
window in HotSync Manager. But I cannot open it by double-clicking or
selecting the Conduit Settings button. I deleted the Entourage Conduit Data
and the Conduit Settings files from the Palm users folder, to no avail.
Ideas?

I have the same problem as Sam, Further, when I perform a HotSync, the log
says "OK Entourage Conduit", but nothing happened to any of the Palm
databases. I had this problem many months ago, and then it went away, but
now it's back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a different problem.
I run Entourage v.X, version 10.1.0. I recently downloaded the conduit
to sync with my Palm, but after apparently syncing for 30 minutes or
so it stops but most information has not synced. what's worse is that
I can't back up my Palm to the Palm Desktop becasue Entourage, like a
cuckoo, has taken over the conduit manager. Any clues?

Try the following:

Launch HotSync Manager, select Conduit Settings, turn off the Entourage
conduit and turn the Palm-supplied conduits back on.

Hi, I have to get into this discussion if it is still alive. I have
been dealing with this similar problem for several weeks now in every
spare moment and lots of time I don't have too. I am not an IT person
nor a specialist with the Palm, just been doing a lot of web searches
in both Palm and Mactopia. I have similar problems with the
Entourage conduits taking over the Hot Sync syncronization as well
with my Tungsten T. I have different errors than the ones posted here
but all seem to say the same thing: these two OS's are not made for
each other.
As it so often states on its web site Palm Source warns about the
third party programs and the unknown problems that occur. Not that
Entourage is a third party, but how many of us have others on our
Palms as well? After several hours tonight I came across a solution I
believe now to be the only fix. I can't tell you how many times I
opened up Conduit Settings and tried to 'shut off' the Entourage
Conduit. But if you, like me, have already pushed 'the button', there
is no going back part way. No turning the Palm settings back on that
I have found. The Palm web site info that finally made sense was to
uninstall Palm Desktop and reinstall it from your CD. Sounds simple
right? Ummmm
The last time i did that it wiped my Address book! Glad i backed it
up.
What I imagined when attempting to use Entourage for the Palm was a
much better marriage of it and Palm Desktop, an import here an export
there and voila the two address books would be sync'd and on the Palm.
Niaeve thought. I even tried to get Entourage to Import my Palm
address info and/or my calendar. Not!
At this time I am convinced that for flawless operation with the
handheld will only be between Palm Desktop and the Tungsten. I wish
to be told and/or shown I am wrong about this because I do like using
Entourage A LOT. I hate to admit how dependant I am on the Palm but it
was working great and I need it back. I sure hope this
uninstall/install works, I'll let you know. P.S.-BACK UP, BACK UP,
BACK UP!

......or you could try to do what it says here at this Mactopia Site
which I found at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherp...ARY/feature_articles/officex/en_PS2_Setup.xml

"Setting up"
To synchronize items between Microsoft Entourage® and your handheld,
you must first install the Entourage conduit.

"Installing the Entourage conduit"
Download Microsoft Handheld Synchronization and follow the
instructions for installation.

"Notes"
When you install the Entourage conduit, a Disabled Conduits folder is
automatically created in the /Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync
folder on your hard disk. The Address, Datebook, Memo, and ToDo Palm
conduits are automatically disabled and placed in this new Disabled
Conduits folder.

To restore the Palm conduits, drag them from the Disabled Conduits
folder to the Conduits folder, and then drag the Entourage Conduit
from the Conduits folder to the Disabled Conduits folder.

...I widh I had known abut the disabled folder 3 weeks ago, it will
teach one to read!

Thanks for that.
Ed, I don't know if we have different versions, but when I open Hot
Sync Manager all I get is a window called HotSync Software Setup,
which offers me two tabs, one for HotSync Controls and the other for
Connection Settings. Neither takes me where I want to go.
However, using the HoySync drop down menu in the main Palm Desktop I
can get to Conduit Settings, but as I said earlier the dreaded
Microsoft cuckoo has eliminated the original settings. I could disable
it but I can't find the Palm Desktop conduits to enable them.

Have you guys had any luck figuring out how to open the Entourage
Conduit yet?
I'm right here with you banging my head against the desk trying to get
this thing to work.
