Paragraph Numbering in word not linked to headings

S

Sandles

There is a lot of chatter about this but my beef was as follows. When doing
numbering (not linked to headings which is relativley easy) I would find that
the numbering for different sections of the document would become sequential
when the style was updated. I would have to go through and "restart
numbering" (if it was avaiable. I have not found any threads that address
this other to say what a pain it is. If this is your problem, this is my
solution.
I use "bullets and numbering/List Styles"
I create my own list style. Note that "bullets and numbering" styles take
precedence over paragraph styles so yo must set your tabs there if it is an
option. I have found I can apply this easily with the following catch. If the
paragraphs have been numbered using some other style they retain that link
and will not start from 1. To deal with this use "clear formatting" and
reapply your list style.
