Partially Opaque Color

Is it possible to make a color partially opaque with FrontPage 2003?

I have a cell with background picture. I want to overlay a small
single-color shape on top and set opacity of the shape so the picture
partially shows through.

Like this: http://ypnphilly.com/

Making the image color transparent makes it disappear completely. Instead, I
want
some of the color to remain, like looking at the background through a color
lens (just like the link above).

Thanks for any help.

That's just a .jpg image that's been edited / blurred using an image
editor.

So perhaps he could instead add a semi transparent overlay with an image
editor ?

Do you mean you want the image to be partially transparent? If so, you need
to create a .png image (that has alpha transparency capabilities) and set the
transparency to any percentage other than 100%, using a program like
Photoshop.

Don't know if this thread is still being read, but I had the same question as
George. Creating a semi transparent png file in something like photoshop is
fine, but when you insert that image into frontpage, the image becomes 100%
opaque. Any one know what's happening, George did you have any success?

Internet Explorer 6 (and earlier) does not support transparency in .png
images.
FrontPage uses IE code for rendering in design (normal) and preview.

Are you importing the image into FP prior to inserting it on your page, if not that might be part of
the problem.

Thanks Ronx, I finally found the answer:

I presume filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader is this
IE code to enable rendering.

But I would never have searched on MSDN for "AlphaImageLoader" unless I read
this code in the stylesheet of a website using png images :)
