Password error - Entourage 2004 and webdav to Exchange

Hi,

I am trying to connect Entourage 2004 to our new Exchange 2003 server.
We have OWA running fine. When I try to connect my Entourage, I get a
message stating that the password is bad and would I like to re-enter
the password. This happens over and over and over.

I can't seem to get past it. Here are some specifics about our
installation:

ISA 2004 provides the FBA for OWA. We are using NLB.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

I have got the same problem.
I can access OWA with no problem, I can even mount the OWA through the
Finder if I use the address :
https://my.owa.server/exchange/[email protected]/
So I can safely assume that webdav is activated and correctly
configured on the exchange 2003 server.

but when I use Entourage 2004, no dice. It rejects my login/password no
matter what I input. I have tried all possible permutations of
domain/ID/password/server address to no avail.

If only there where a way to log the errors on the client side when
Entourage tries to connect, we might be able to see what's wrong.
Sadly, we are using an exchange server hosted by MCI, and they made it
clear that they are not even going to reply to support question if it
is not on Windows.

Any thoughts or idea on why things go bonky would be greatly
appreciated !!!
many thanks

Same thing happening to me. Although I'm able to connect now even
though I still get the error on launch...

First, I installed 11.2.3. I also unchecked the box under Directory
Settings that says "This server requires me to login." (In fact, I have
no boxes checked under Directory Settings.)

One of those 2 things fixed the problem. I think it was the second.

Now, every time I launch Entourage, I am still getting the "password
invalid / would you like to try to enter it again" error. I click
"NO". Then I go to Tools/Account, double click on my Exchange Server
account, and then close it without making any changes. Then I go to my
Public Folders to get Exchange thinking... Usually it starts
connecting (slowly). That is working for me although it is sure
annoying. I have to check with our hosted exchange service
(Intermedia) to see if they can figure out what's going on on their
end.

I still can't open other people's folders (calendar, mail, etc.) even
though they have the permissions set correctly for me.

I have had the same problems after our IT group did some changes to OWA.

I came across this Knowledgebase Article which describes the my problem with
relation to invalid usernames/passwords.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909268/EN-US/

As there are only a handful of entourage users out of a couple thousand
people here, I have very little chance of getting any workarounds introduced
on the server side. Which means it is goodbye to Entourage for accessing
exchange. Very very depressing. I am now reliant on VPC and outlook.

Cheers.

Thanks Mike, that KB article is very helpful. At least it sets the
record straight. Now I guess what's left for us to do is to wait and
pray for an Entourage update to support form-based authentication. Can
anybody from the Mac BU tell us whether it is in the cards or not ?

Meanwhile I'll go the VPC and Outlook way, though the thought of
running that on a Mac mini 1.42ghz, even with 1GB of ram is not
pleasant at all...

thanks.

Thanks Mike.
I have forwarded the KB article you mentionned to our hosting company,
but I don't hold much hope...
I just cannot understand why the Mac BU do not solve such
"trivial-looking" hurdle. Why it is always necessary to change settings
on the server to make entourage work ? this should be the other way
around ! this makes no sense.

Our hosted Exchange service was finally able to help me. Not sure if
this will work in every situation but for me it was an easy fix...

My Exchange Account ID was "myname2"
but my email address was "[email protected]"

I guess there is a bug in Entourage where even though Exchange
associates the ID and the email, Entourage can't do it.

I had to change my primary email address to: "[email protected]"

That fixed the password problem. It also fixed a problem I was having
opening other users calendars (I had to open their calendar using
"[email protected]" not "[email protected]")
