Password Protect a Web Page

Is there an easy way to create a Splash page of sorts for a Publisher created
website that would require a username and pw to enter the site? I'm not sure
it would even require a db or major security... just basic security to the
info on the site isn't readily accessible.

I am creating some personal websites for some friends that give detailed
information about their address, name, etc and one of them is pregnant. She
wants the website to share with family and friends, but she is scared to
share on there when her baby is due and so on with all the creepy stuff that
happened last year with people killing pregnant ladies and taking their
babies. Anywho... I don't really think the people who have done this have
had to be sneaky... the information has just been handed to them. So any
kind of security would be great.

Depends on what kind of server you are on, and what the host will allow.

I am not on a Unix server. I am hosting my site on Brinkster right now.
Nothing special. I might be moving it to Microsoft this month, so not on
Unix then either. Is there a tutorial online on how to do it with
javascript? I know it's not as secure, but I'll take anything I can get at
this point.

If your on Windows server you'd create a subweb with unique permissions, but again..the host has to allow this...I kinda doubt Brinkster would though.

In any case if someone is at the level of creating a password protected part
of their website they should be using a proper web editor, not Publisher!

That is what I had to do.

Yeppers.

Pub can do webs, but I've found kinda inflexible and difficult to cleanup/convert if you want to use them in FP, etc.

And god forbid you have overlapping content when it generates the html and you don't notice.
