Password protected doc opens as black sheet with XP

Problem Description: We have a user on XP Pro, all updates
and patches applied. Using Office 97. A person sent a
document that is password protected. She chooses the Read
Only button and the document won't open. She has full
control of her "My Documents" folder where the file is
located. She is a Power User on her machine. I can't
reproduce the problem at this time on another XP machine,
so I am thinking it is a permission issue.
Thoughts?
