Can anyone advise me how I can create private areas of a
website accessible (say) by password only? My wehsoting
company says thaey need to set up a password protectd
directory but I can no longer use frontpage to publish,
must use FTP. I do not understand how to intergrate the
two .

It really depends on your host whether or not, you can use FP to manage
permissions.

What is the server type and server OS
your site is hosted on?

Or, can you post a URL

I have no problem with this with my ISP (OneAndOne)
I can password-protect as many directories as I like from within their web control area, and then continue publishing from FrontPage as normal

Maybe you need to change ISP's ! (no I'm not on commission !!!)
