Password protecting database?

I transfer my database file back-and-forth on a USB key between my work
and home computer to synchronize my email and contacts. Is there a way
to encrypt or password protect the database to prevent it from being
accessed if I lose the USB key?

Zip it and use an encryption key to lock the zip file.

Or, make an encrypted disk image the size of the USB Key, and save the
database in that.
