Paste Special as Picture (Windows Metafile) shows blank/white?

One of our staff members is adamant that she be able to copy a block of
rows/columns from Excel and paste them into Word as a Windows Metafile.

Originally, she was using Word/Excel 2000, and when she attempted this,
it would result in a blank placeholder. I subsequently uninstalled
Office 2000 and installed Office 2003. The problem still remains. I am
able to do this perfectly using my own computer. What can I do to make
this work for her?

A few things to try:
1. In Word, if you're working in Normal view, then switch to Print
Layout view (View | Print Layout), because objects that are formatted as
"float over text" (Word 97) or as something other than "inline with
text" (Word 2000, 2002, and 2003) are not visible in Normal view.
2. In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | check the
"Drawings" box and uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box | Print tab |
check the "Drawing objects" box | OK.
3. If neither of the previous suggestions fixes the problem, then
try reducing or turning off hardware acceleration in Start | Control
Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot. If this fixes the
problem, then you might want to check the website of the manufacturer of
your video card/graphics adapter to see if there is an updated driver
available.

No go. Problem still occurs. The pasted content displays if you right
click the image and click Edit Picture, but the Edit Picture option
does not show up when you paste as a link, so the desired outcome is
not being achieved.

Your original post said the problem is that an Excel range pasted as a
metafile into Word appears in Word as a blank placeholder. That was the
problem my reply addressed. If you figure out what the actual desired
outcome is, let us know.

Yes. An Excel range was pasted as a link as a metafile into Word (i.e.
Paste Special -> Paste As Link -> Picture (Windows Metafile)).. Sorry
for the confusion. Also, none of the other paste as picture options
work (i.e. bitmap, enhanced metafile, windows metafile), either pasting
with or without the link. As per previous post, the only time the image
displays is if you paste as special without the link, and right click
the blank image and click edit picture.
