pasting russian web pages into word 2002 XP and word97

When I cut and then paste a web page which uses cyrillic , the word XP application loads the page and then freezes (need to reset the system and relaod).
However with word 97 I have no problem whatsoever and the cut and paste works perfectly. Does anyone experience the same problem or know how to solve it?
I am using windows 98 2nd edition.
