Permanently Delete in INBOX (Entourage 2008)

A great feature that I always use in Oulook 2007 is the Shift Delete. This
seems to work in the Deleted Items, but not the Inbox. I really like this
feature. Is there a way to do this in Entourage 2008? Thanks!

Try the AppleScript called "Nuke Messages":
Nuke Messages will bypass sending the two steps of sending duplicates to the
deleted items folder then deleting again.

This script "nukes" the message in the frontmost window or selected messages
in a list. Nuking a message removes it completely from the database - it does
not pass go, collect $200, or end up in the Deleted Items folder. The script
comes premapped to ctrl-d. As with any strategic nuclear weapon, extreme
caution should be exercised in its use. There is no confirmation dialog. Once
you nuke a message, it is gone for good.

Thanks for the quick response. I put the file in the "Entourage Script Menu
Items" folder, but I don't see it in the script list. I also press Command D
and the email just duplicates. I tried quitting and restarting, but that did
not work. Something I'm missing? Thanks.

Still not the same thing as a simple Shift-Delete. That's also one of the
things I miss in Outlook. Everyone one grumbles about Microsoft, but it has
to be said, there's no office suite to match MS Office on Windows. Or is it
deliberate that the Mac Office is relatively crippled?

I was putting it in the incorrect folder, though there are TWO script
folders. One made it work.

The new issue I'm having is the fact that shortcut doesn't work. It says,
"^[CommandIcon]D"
I've tried every variation. What does this mean?

I can permanently delete by clicking on the script icon and then choosing it
manually, but the keyboard shortcut is the way to go. Any ideas? Thanks!

I did try Control+Command+D, Delete, the other backspace delete. Nothing
works. I can use the script with the dropdown, but when I use the shortcuts,
nothing happens. Plz help. Thanks.

What is the exact name of the script? The end of the file name determines
the keyboard shortcut; to find out more about this, open Entourage's help
section and read the article entitled "About the Script menu" (sub-section
'Step 3: Define a keyboard shortcut for the script (optional)'.

The command, from the menu is "Command+Control+D". This does not anything
when I click it. I can use the menu to nuke it, but otherwise it does not
work. I don't know what else to do.

Sorry for the multiple responses. Figured it out.

I changed the file name, after learning that changing the scrips name,
changes the shortcut. Instead of Control AND Command, I just changed it to
Control D. It worked. I think, in the .zip file you have linked, it should
be changed to Control D, so others do not have the same issue.

Thank you very much for your help!

It's possible you have a conflict. Get the script "List Keyboard Shortcuts."

I just posted the first in a series of articles "Using AppleScripts with
Entourage" The first article describes the basics. It has the link to the
"List Keyboard Shortcuts" scripts. Rather than give you that link, you
should read over the article so you do know the basics. It's short. :)
