Permission issue

Does Word 2003 using doc security have the ability to over throw NTFS
permissions if the Word docs are stored on a shared drive on a W2K server?
Strange happenings on docs coming from or altered by Word 2003. NTFS
permmisions on server and administrator can not change or alter
permissisions on any of these files. Anyone else seen this?
