Phone number labels swithching

When I attach my virtual card to an e-mail and open it, I find that
the label on the phone number labeled as MAIN when I open it in
address book has switched to HOME FAX. I can't change and save the
attechaed file and I can't get it to attach with the lables as they
appear in the address book. Any Ideas?

That's really strange! I can reproduce the same behavior using the latest
version of Entourage, 10.1.4. I recommend you submit this bug to Microsoft
using the feedback function of Office X. In Entourage X, go to Help -> Send
Feedback on Entourage. Otherwise, click on this direct link to enter Mac

Drag the vcard file onto TextEdit. What does it show for the text on the
line of the phone number, e.g. tel;type=home:

Hi Dave,

For entries set to "Main", it only shows "tel:" when exported. However, if
I delete the original, import the one I just exported, and export a vCard
file of that, I see "tel;type=home;type=fax:". I don't understand why
Entourage is declaring the unlabeled entry to be "Home Fax" when imported,
rather than "Main" or at least one of the Custom fields.

Without a label indicating what it should be, I suspect it's just applying
a random label. It looks like the bug is that the label "Main" isn't applied
on export.

I don't think that the label "main" is part of the standard vCard protocol.
I may be wrong on that, but that's what it looks like. Many other PIMs don't
have a "main" phone type. Phones types which are not covered by the
protocol, (unlike home, work, work fax, etc., which are) are exported as
generic "tel" (phone). But Entourage does not have any generic phones - they
have to be of one type or another. So when importing, Entourage assigns
generic phones to a particular type. the bug seems to be that Entourage will
even displace a real "home" by the generic one (that used to be "main") and
bump the real "home" to "home fax" or whatever - now there are two errors. I
don't know what you can do about "guessing" which type to assign - you'll be
wrong 90% of the time.

Perhaps the protocol allows exporting PIMs to assign non-standard types like
"tel/main". Then PIMs which have that type, such as Entourage, will know
what to do with it and the other PIMs can treat it generically, and do -
well, whatever they do.
