placing an image into a form when submitting data

I know you can put an image on a form but is there anyway like in a
directory to have a different photo for each form. So as you as an entry to
the directory you add a photo which relects the data being entered. ie a
photo of the person in the directory entry.

Yes; use a richtext field. (The "Image" field is for fixed images).

I have placed a rich text field but how do you get the image to display.
When I open the form I can drag and drop the image into the rich text area
but it just displays an icon for the jpg and the name of the file but not
the actual image.
