placing my reply before, not after, the sender's message

Just that: when I hit reply, the cursor appears at the end of the original
message. The mail preference doesn't seem to specify the position of the
reply, and it's hard to believe the default mode would put the reply at the
bottom.
I've received so many emails that tell me "looks like you tried to reply,
but there's nothing there from you" because, understandably, the original
sender didn't look to the bottom of the message for my reply.
I have Entourage 10.0.0, from the Office: mac v.X
Please? Thank you!

I blogged about this issue and gave some explanations and solutions.

Thank you, Barry! Only, in my version of Entourage, there is no Option 2
(nowhere to check "place reply text at top of message), and no Option 3
(nowhere to check "Place reply at top of message and include From, Date..)
I did, however, try your Option 2+ (check the "Place insertion point before
quoted text")
That did it!
But... If I checked as an attribution "use none", or the "prefix with short,
header-style attribution," the checkbox for "place insertion point before..."
becomes unavailable.
I found that I MUST check "prefix my reply with internet-style attribution
lines" and, because I don't want them, leave the text box blank
And, dang, as you observe, "Nowhere is the preferred option for most
top-posters: cursor; signature; short attribution line; quoted text." Sigh...

Yes, things are slightly different between vX & v2004. Did you also see the
tip to use the script 'reply Insertion Reversed X'?

Go here:
http://scriptbuilders.net/files/replyinsertionreversedx1.1.html

Download & uncompress the file.

Drop the 'reply insertion reversed x' folder into your 'Entourage script
menu items'

Run the prefs script in that folder (by switching to entourage and selecting
the script through the Entourage scripts menu, that little black scroll menu
just to the right of the Help menu)

Then whenever you want to reply to a message using your preferred set up,
just use the script - it can be set up to use a keyboard command - I think
that it comes with Cmd-Cntl-R set up as default)
