Please help: pdf attachments

Steffen M. Steck

Hello,
maybe OT but I have no clue anymore so I post here.
My setup:
outlook clients - internal Exchange 5.5 - Postfix 2.0.6 mail relay
A client sends a pdf to the internet, the mail leaves outlook and is
in the exchange box' smtp queue waiting for delievery to the postfix
box resulting in a 421 timeout exceeded error at the end of the
queue's lifetime. I sniffed on the exchange box and tcpdump'ed on the
postfix and see that the transmission of the attachment never ends, it
breaks and restarts in a loop. This seems to be because the outlook
client encodes the pdf as text/* instead of application/pdf. This
threat has also been discussed here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q="[email protected]&rnum=1
The result is that these attachments leave the house only if you zip
them or uuencode them (but some clients still have problems with
this).
This occured behaviour first about 4 weeks ago - at this time nothing
has changed in postfix or exchange setup. Has anybody else seen
something similar or an idea?
Thanks for any input.
