Like a good Mac girl, I just went through cleaning up old caches, etc.
and ran Cocktail on my Mac to clean up the system--cleaned caches,
repaired permissions, etc. (iBook, OS 10.2, Microsoft Office X). When
I restarted and went to check my e-mail, Entourage opened up completely
blank as if I never had an account in there. All of my adresses,
e-mail messages, etc. were gone. I tried looking in the Identities and
even copying the one that had my old info. on it over, but nothing is
working! It's set up as a pop account, so they should have been
downloading onto my hard drive somewhere, but I can't get them to show
back up. How can I get my e-mail messages back?

The problem you're describing looks like Entourage created a new identity
because it could no longer find the old one when it started up. During your
spring cleaning, did you accidentally move the Microsoft User Data folder
(located in your Documents folder)? Because that's where Entourage stores
all its data (~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office v.X Identities, to be
more precise). If you did move that folder, move it back to where it
belongs, which will of course overwrite your new database (make sure you
backup any mail messages you may have received since the "incident" by
dragging them from Entourage onto the desktop). If you now launch Entourage
and all goes well, simply drag the new e-mail messages from your desktop
back into Entourage.

If you did not move the MUD folder, then try switching identities. Go to
Entourage>Switch Identities, and see if there is more than one identity in
there; if that's the case, switch back to the old identity, usually called
Main Identity (unless you've renamed it). If that solved your problem, then
you can get rid of the new identity (remember to backup new e-mails as
described above).

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for your suggestion. I didn't move the MUD folder, and I tried
to switch identities, but here's the weird thing: the identity that my
old e-mails were under is showing up in a Microsoft 2001 identities
folder, but I am running office X and have been since I've used
Entourage. So when I try to open the identity that has (or should
have) all my old stuff in it, I get the message that this version of
Entourage cannot open that identity. Do you know of any way that I
could convert that identity so that it can be read by Entourage X?

Strange... but anyhow, try File>Import, then select "Import information from
a program", and select Entourage 2001 in the window that shows up. This
should hopefully import your old identity.
