Pop - up addresses

david

I have been using Entourage for well over a year.
I note that any email adress I have sent to before, (or perhaps
received from) 'pops' up as a prompt menu when I start a new email.
The problem is by this stage many of these emails are incorrect or not
required. How do I remove the emails from popping up? They are NOT
in my address book. Of the 1000's of adresses that pop up I'm sure
only about 10% are still usefull to me. Can anyone help?

Go to mail and news preferences, then the compose tab. At the bottom of this
window, hit clear list. This will clear the recent contacts.

I'm using Entourage from Office 2001. Mine doesn't have the "Clear List"
feature.
Is there any other way to get rid of those annoying popup non-addresses?

In Entourage X there is an option in the preferences to clear this address
Cache (Mail & News prefs; Compose tab). You can also (in the same place)
turn off the display of these addresses (but still keep the Œauto complete¹
of names in your address book).

In both Entourage v9 and in vX individual items can be removed by adding an
entry to the address book that EXACTLY matches the rogue entry in the
history list and then deleting it.

Alternatively, just wait a few days/weeks. The remembered addresses are
prioritised by age & frequency and the list is limited to a maximum of 200,
so eventually your mistakes will fall out at the bottom.
