Portraying stages of an application- add-in?

Hi,
I want to do a first-rate job of portraying an
applicant's stages of progress. There might be 12 or so
stages. For example:
stage description
1 send in application
2 send in money
3 send in reference
4 get invited for an interview
5 have the interview
6 acknowledge the interview
etc.
is there an add-in that i should use?
It would be nice to have a colorful, graphical solution
that could also give more detailed information on each
stage as well. (for example, more detailed information
for stage 4 might be "date of interview: 2/18/04,
Interview is Mr. Jones")
Any ideas?
We can program it if we need-

Well, sure ASP with a database is fine for the back end. I am interested in creating a beautiful and functional graphical display

that does a nice job with the different stages and descriptions- That's what I'd like some help on.
