Powerpoint 2000 changes file dates after installing SP3

I work as an IT Tutor and still have to use Office 2000 in some venues. When
my students do tests which I have to mark I must preserve the date and time
last modified information. After installing SP3 I find that the modified
date changes if I simply open and then close again without making any changes.

Has anybody else experienced this affect and if so does anyone know a way to
revert to the old system?
