PowerPoint 2000 Playing Multiple Sound Files Simultaneously

I know how to embed a wave file to play through several
slides. The problem that I am encountering is trying to
embed sound effects with graphics on a slide, and still
have the narration or music file continue to play through
the designated number of slides. Once the first sound
effect wave file is encountered, the "background" music is
terminated. Is there a way around this?

Yes, buy a better sound card.

This is a limitation of your sound card, not of PowerPoint's. PowerPoint
places requests of the Operating system and if the system isn't able to play
multiple sound threads, then to first is booted when he second one plays.

You could also merge the sounds, using a sound editor, into one a single
file. This would then become a single sound thread for your current sound
card to play.
