POWERPOINT 2002 photographs in photo album lost color

I spent hours importing photos into a photo album in Powerpoint 2002. There
are 183 slides - now when I open the file, they are all black and white!!
Questions:

- What happened?
- Is my only choice to recreate the entire photo album, or can I get the
color back?
- If I have to recreate, what can I do to ensure this doesn't happen again?

Thanks!

No, you don't have to recreate the presentation. You just switched to
a black and white view of the slides.

Click the View menu in the menu bar and select Color/Grayscale/Color.
