KDC,
By applying a transition time in the Slide transition task pane, next to
automatic apply a timing and click Apply to all button.
Or if you want some more control, go to Slide sorter view and click the
rehearse timing button (second from the left in the slide sorter toolbar).
This way you will be able to set a more appropriate time for each slide.
