Powerpoint hyperlinks to slides reseting to url

I am IT technician at a school. One of our teachers has made a powerpoint
show with 1000+ slides and links between them.
It not seems to have came to a saturation point as any links now entered
keep resetting back to a URL when the program is shutdown and restarted.
Its office XP btw

Clarky, you appear to have reached PowerPoint's limit for hyperlinks.
You'll probably have to break the show up into a few different files. This
