You would've have received a PowerPoint Show (*.PPS) file.
How is this done ?
Save the presentation as PowerPoint Show or rename the presentation
extension from PPT to PPS.
How can I edit the pages ?
Open PowerPoint first and then select File | Open..., navigate to the PPS
file and select it to open it for editing.

In addition to Shyam's response, you can achieve this by also setting your
slide transitions to "automatically" after "x" seconds (click "Transitions"
icon while in Slide Sorter View) and making sure the "End with black slide"
option is unchecked (under "Tools", "Options", "View" TAB). That way the
presentation comes up in Slide Show Mode (as mentioned in Shyams post), each
slide automatically comes up after "x" seconds, and closes out when done
(assuming the "Loop Continuously until 'ESC'" under "Slide Show", "Set up
show" is unchecked).
